The top "Top Rated" athletes who are usually known, watched and observed by college scouts are usually bombarded with all kinds of invitations from schools across the country long before the student is even getting serious about the college application process.
For those overlooked by scouts, the high school athlete who is wishing to participate in college sports needs to do a little more to gain the attention of potential interested colleges and their coaches.
Many student athletes either work with a coach, parent, or athletic service. Athletic Services often want to prep the athlete so that all can see the athlete has gotten in "somewhere" not taking into account whether or not the school they have selected is truly the right fit, and where the student athlete can participate in their sport
Many times, these athletic services get the task done with the idea that the athlete will receive an athletic scholarship of some sort to assist with paying for their education. Unfortunately, not all High school athletes who would like to participate in College Sports make it because they do not have the right people to turn to their college search or the college planning process. There are much stronger and more successful ways to approach this desire of the student.
Then there is an issue when they graduate from college. A very small percentage of high school athletes will continue on after college days to play their sport professionally. Consequently, it is important to counsel the athlete on many levels so that over and above the sport that they play, the education they recieve will enable them to be successful without their athletics.
While having a strong athletic profile is important, athletes need to go through the same process as their counterpart peers in getting into the college of their choice. This is where the goal of our program comes into play. It is designed to help high school athletes find not only the schools where they can not only pursue their athletics, but have their academic and social needs met as well.
However, that said, the Student Athlete needs to also be realistic about their athletic abilities. They need to keep an open mind as to which schools will provide the best fit, not the quality of only the sports program they are seeking. The mission is to give the student athlete all the information they need to make the best college decisions, both athletically and academically.
Giving this information brings us to another point in the process which is a little more sensitive, but needs to be addressed. It is the "WHAT IFS". Every High school athlete should consider the "what ifs".... What if injuries or other reasons come about and the athlete can not continue playing their sport in college. It is for the "What IFs" that this process especially important for the college decision to be a good match. If athletics are no longer an option to the student athlete , the student athlete should feel that their school is still a good fit and want to continue there as a student, and graduate with the diploma they came to seek.
