Learning Differences

Nothing matters more to a student or their family if a child is in a situation where their physical, social, or educational well-being is challenged.   As a parent, you may be anxious, worried, confused, angry… even a bit desperate.  There may be the fear that your child who is bright won't be able to go to a college or university and participate like his or her peers, and we can assure you that nothing is farther from the truth.

Students who deal with learning differences are students who learn differently.  It does not mean they are not capable or that they can not function in a college tradition.  It means that they have to find a school that will be able to meet their needs.

Some of the differences that we work with include, but not limited to:

  • Reading Disorders
  • Language Based Learning Disabilities
  • AD/HD Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Asperger’s Syndrome
  • Non-Verbal Learning Disability
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder
  • Pervasive Developmental Disorder
  • Dyslexia
  • Tourette Syndrome
  • Autistic Spectrum Disorder

With so many therapists, eduational specialists  or programs and schools of vaious philosophies out there, it is difficult for families to find the consultants that can assist them in their quest to get their child into the best colleges and universities.  We visit, learn as much as we can, evaluate, and develop personal relationships with an extensive network of colleges and universities to assist you and your chlild every step of the way from Minimal facility accommodations to full comprehensive services.

There are over 4,000 colleges in the U.S. alone and many offer strong learning support services. Our consultants visit colleges on a continual basis, meeting with learning specialists, assessing each learning center and speaking with admissions counselors. We understand what colleges offer and the students they serve best. We are the experts in finding the right fit for our students.

In some cases. some students are not ready for the college experience for one reason or another. We have the knowledge and expertise to recommend other options, such as independent living skills, emotional-growth, and gap-year programs.  We also work with students at all levels of academic ability, from those in special education classes to those who have taken honors and AP classes or are enrolled in an IB program.

What our students have in common is a strong desire to further their education, whether that means a four-year academically challenging college, a two-year college, an independent living skills program, a gap year, or any number of other options available to high school graduates.

Our approach at The College Admissions Consultant is to:

  • Understand the unique learning difference issues facing each student
  • Review the student’s high school transcript, IEP or 504 plan, psycho-educational testing report,
  • Improve student self-knowledge and self-advocacy skills
